Introduction

A Knights Tale: The Movie? is a film that was released in 2001. It is a story about a young man named William who wants to be a knight. He gets his chance when he poses as another knight and wins a jousting tournament. This movie is set in the Middle Ages and follows William as he tries to win the love of a beautiful noblewoman, Jocelyn. Along the way, he must face many challenges, including defeating the reigning champion knight, Sir Roland.

What is A Knight’s Tale about?

A Knight’s Tale is a movie released in 2001 that tells the story of William Thatcher, a commoner who poses as a knight so that he can compete in jousting tournaments. The movie follows his rise to fame and fortune, as well as his relationships with the people around him.

The movie compared to the book

When reading a book, the reader creates a film in their mind of the characters and settings. So what happens when a director decides to create a film of that book? They have to decide what is important to show on the screen and how to best tell the story within the time limit. Some things are bound to be left out and sometimes new elements are added in. The following will compare and contrast the differences between Chaucer’s “Canterbury Tales” and the 2001 film, A Knight’s Tale.

The film starts off introducing our main character, William Thatcher (Heath Ledger), as he works in a forge with his father and friends. In the book, there is no mention of his father or any friends, only that he is from a “poor village.” The director wants us to see that he comes from humble beginnings but is a hard worker. We are also introduced to his love interest, Jocelyn (Shannyn Sossamon), much earlier on in the film. In the book, Chaucer describes her as “fair enough, but nothing special.” She is not given much attention until later on when she becomes relevant to the plot.

One big change is that Chaucer’s pilgrims are travelling to Canterbury to see the tomb of Thomas Becket while in the movie; they are going to compete in a jousting tournament. This was most likely done for entertainment value as well as relevance to the time period the film was set in (14th century). Jousting was a popular sport during this time so it would make sense that people would be flocking from all over England to see it.
The tournament itself is also different than what is described in Chaucer’s poem. In the movie, there are three rounds with each knight having three chances to win while Chaucer describes there only being two rounds with each knight having two chances (possibly because his was written in Middle English). Regardless, both poems describe William winning each round until he reaches the final where he faces off against Adhemar (Rufus Sewell), Count of Valois who represents France.

Adhemar is different than any other opponent faced by William thus far; he is cocky and sure of himself which throws William off his game. In addition, Adhemar has bribed all four judges so that they will be rooting for him from the start which doesn’t give William much of chance. Chaucer describes him as being “full of guile” which is reflected well by Sewell’s performance. This finally gives William some motivation though and he rallies back by defeating Adhemar fair and square in front on everyone including Jocelyn who had been swept up by Adhemar’s advances earlier on in the film.

The ending scene where William rides off into sunset with Jocelyn wasn’t present in Chaucer original story but was most likely added for Hollywood purposes; every good movie needs a happy ending after all!

The characters in the movie

The movie A Knight’s Tale is set in the late fourteenth century. The story follows the life of William Thatcher, a peasant who pretends to be a nobleman in order to compete in jousting tournaments.

The film features an all-star cast, including Heath Ledger, Rufus Sewell, Shannyn Sossamon, and Paul Bettany. The characters in the movie are:

* William Thatcher – Heath Ledger
* Sir Ector – Alan Tudyk
* Wat – James Purefoy
* Roland – Chaucer – Paul Bettany
* Jocelyn – Shannyn Sossamon
* CD – Matt Damon
* Count Adhemar – Rufus Sewell

The costumes in the movie

The costumes are based on the1370s fashions. The colors are very dull, almost always earth tones. The reason for this is to indicate that most of the people were peasants and did not have much money for colorful dyes. The silhouette of the clothes is also very important. The men wore tight clothes to show their muscles and the women wore flowing dresses to show their femininity.

The music in the movie

The music in the movie was great. It helped set the mood and added to the overall tone of the film. I particularly enjoyed the use of electric guitars in the scene where Sir Lancelot is training for his jousting match.

The cinematography in the movie

The movie A Knight’s Tale is a historical fiction set in the Middle Ages. The story is about a young man named William who poses as a Knight to compete in tournaments. One of the most striking things about the film is its cinematography.

The film was shot on location in the Czech Republic, and the sets and costumes are very faithful to the period. The colors are very muted, and this gives the film a very authentic feeling. Even though it is ahistorical, it feels very real.

The use of light and darkness is also very effective in the film. There are scenes shot in very bright sunlight, and others that are almost entirely dark. This helps to create a sense of unease and foreboding in some of the scenes where William is in danger.

Overall, the cinematography in the film is excellent, and it helps to create a feeling of authenticity that makes the viewer feel as if they are transported back to medieval times.

The fight scenes in the movie

The fight scenes in the movie are some of the most impressive and well-choreographed of all time. Heath Ledger is absolutely believable as a young man who has been training his entire life to be a knight, and the scenes in which he fights are some of the most intense and exciting in the film. The other actors are also excellent in their roles, and the overall production values are very high.

The ending of the movie

There are a number of ways to end a movie, but for the purposes of this article we will focus on the three most common types of endings.

The first type of ending is the happy ending. This is where the main characters all end up in a good place emotionally and/or physically. The second type of ending is the sad or tragic ending. This is where characters do not end up in a good place and may even die. The third type of ending is the open-ended ending. This is where the movie does not give a clear indication of what happens to the characters after the events of the movie.

endings are often controversial because they can change how people feel about a movie as a whole. A happy ending might make people feel good but it can also be seen as unrealistic or even cheesy. A sad or tragic ending might be seen as more realistic but it can also leave people feeling angry or upset. An open-ended ending can be seen as both good and bad depending on how it is executed.

The ending of a movie is important because it can determine how people feel about the film as a whole. A bad ending can ruin an otherwise good film while a great ending can make an average film much better. It is important to choose an ending that fits with the tone and style of the film in order to avoid alienating your audience.
