A Night To Remember is a 1958 British drama film adaptation of Walter Lord’s 1955 book, which recounts the sinking of the RMS Titanic on 15 April 1912. The film was adapted and directed by William Hale and starred Kenneth More and Dane Clark. It was filmed in the United Kingdom.
Although having had a troubled production and reshoots, the final product was very successful upon its release in the UK, and is generally considered to be one of the greatest disaster films ever made. It became an international hit, particularly in the United States, where it earned $5 million in theatrical rentals during its first year of release.
It won an Academy Award for Best Cinematography (Stanley Cortez) and was nominated for Best Art Direction (Cedric Gibbons, Arthur digest) and Best Picture.
It was the summer of 1912, and the Titanic was on her maiden voyage from Southampton, England to New York City. On board were some of the wealthiest people in the world, as well as a large number of emigrants from Ireland, Scandinavia and other parts of Europe seeking a new life in America.
The ship hit an iceberg on the night of April 14th and sank less than three hours later. Over 1500 people perished in what remains today as one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history.
The film centers around the fictional character of Rose DeWitt Bukater (played by Kate Winslet), a first-class passenger who falls in love with Jack Dawson (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), a third-class artist passenger. The two must fight for their lives as the ship sinks and all around them panic ensues.

The story is set in Southampton, England, in 1912.
The movie’s soundtrack was a mix of music from the 1950s and 1980s. The 1950s tracks were current when the ship sank, while the 1980s music served as a reminder that the Titanic disaster occurred only a few decades ago. Some of the songs on the soundtrack include:
“Unchained Melody” – The Righteous Brothers
“My Heart Will Go On” – Celine Dion
“Hallelujah” – Leonard Cohen
“Nearer My God to Thee” – Traditional
The costumes in the movie were truly amazing. Every detail was accounted for, from the jewelry to the shoes. The designers must have worked tirelessly to create such beautiful clothing. I can only imagine how long it took to make all of the dresses!
The movie is set in the year 1912, and focuses on the events leading up to the sinking of the Titanic. The cinematography is stunning, and the director used a variety of techniques to create a realistic and harrowing portrayal of the disaster.
The film begins with a close up of the ship, followed by a shot of it sailing through rough waters. The camera then cuts to a wide shot of the ship, giving viewers a sense of its size and scale. Throughout the film, there are several shots of the ship from different angles, which helps to give a more well-rounded view of the events that took place.
One scene in particular that stands out is when the ship hits an iceberg and starts to sink. The director uses a combination of close ups and wide shots to show both the panicked passengers and the enormity of the ship. This scene is incredibly powerful and really gives viewers a sense of what it must have been like for those who were on board.
Overall, the cinematography in this film is simply outstanding. The director did an amazing job of using different shots and angles to create a realistic and harrowing portrayal of the Titanic disaster.
